Joomla is another free, open source content management system written in PHP for publishing and managing content on the web and intranets using a MySQL database. Joomla includes features such as page caching to improve performance, web indexing, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, newsflashes, blogs, forums, polls, calendars, website searching, and language internationalization.  Other functions can be found or created by web developers to provide additional features.

While Joomla is well known, if you are considering using a CMS for the first time, I would highly recommend considering the use of Elxis because Elxis offers a streamlined friendly interface that is much easier to use, increased security because it has been completely re-coded using the latest Php advancements, and provides the user with true multilanguage capabilities for both the front-end and administrative users.

The basic idea of Joomla (or any web content management system for that matter) is that a non-technical person often needs to be able to keep their own website up-to-date without having to call on a web developer to make changes every time. Of course there are some things that can only be done by a web developer, but for simpler tasks such as changing the wording of a paragraph, it is an unnecessary burden and expense for both parties if you have to get a developer to make the changes.
