Statistics – what is your web site actually doing?
Statistics – what is your web site actually doing?
When it comes to tracking the performance of your web site on the Internet, there are at least two ways to think about it.
The first reason is what most people use it for, to look to see who and from where their web pages have been accessed the most. Another reason is to see what pages are attracting the most visitors.
The most common tools for measuring performance are:
Awstats, that is directly available from most the server that your site is hosted.
Google Analytics a free resource that is easy to implement and provides graphical statistics and demographics.
The second should be Google Analytics, which is free, or a compatible program that can be integrated with your site to produce statistical results in a readable manner while making use of the massive data that can be collected.
A third method is to use online counters that report information to a third party from the web pages that are searched and accessed.
What is the real target audience that you want to attract to your site or the goal?
Most web pages are written in a free form manner that is not targeting visitors. If you want your web site to actually produce more clients or customers for you then you have to drive your site rather than simply let it float along in the cosmic space of the Internet. In effect, you have to approach this as if you are a marketing and sales professional pushing your products or services out in front.
Some of your goals should be:
Higher web site traffic - less visitor bouncing (visitors that happen onto your site but jump to another) that simply leave your site because it was not what they wanted but also because mostly because it does not peak their enough interest to continue looking at what you do have on your web site.
Another good reason to have visitors return to your site is to hopefully refer it to others as in word of mouth promotion.
